As Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane, the sins of the world fell upon Him, the enemy worked through Judas to betray Him, the hour was here…and He cried out to God…words that would echo throughout eternity.
-“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me…yet, not my will, but your will be done.””
Jesus, in that moment, faced the reality of the work that must be finished, the work that only He could do. It wasn’t hidden from Him. He wasn’t unaware or caught off guard. It was why He came, He lived a perfect life, and now was being offered by His Father as a ransom for the world. The Lord kept His word, and so did Jesus. While Jesus finished the work on that cross…He punched the enemy in the face in that garden.
May this piece encourage you in your walk. Remember that in your prayers Jesus knows your pain, He knows your suffering, and He will give you the strength to say just as He did “my my will, but your will be done.” He laid it all down for us, and we get to do the same for Him.
